Mr. Steffens is a highly accomplished attorney with more than 30 years of experience in federal and state litigation. Throughout his distinguished career in the private sector, he has built a reputation for delivering exceptional representation in complex civil, commercial, and bankruptcy cases. Known for his strategic approach and deep legal expertise, serving as Of Counsel in MZLS, Mr. Steffens has successfully represented clients across administrative, trial, and appellate levels in both state and federal courts.
A magna cum laude graduate of the University of the Sacred Heart (1990), Mr. Steffens earned his Juris Doctor from the prestigious Georgetown University Law Center in 1993. Throughout his career he has honed his skills in high-stakes litigation involving prominent corporate defendants. Notable cases included representing a major motor vehicle manufacturer in litigation related to improper airbag deployment, spontaneous vehicle combustion, and the landmark Explorer/Firestone litigation. He also served as Puerto Rico counsel for the largest tobacco manufacturer in the U.S. during the Attorney General’s litigation against Big Tobacco, showcasing his ability to navigate large-scale, multi-jurisdictional disputes.
In asbestos litigation, Mr. Steffens represented a stateside turbine manufacturer in a case involving over 800 plaintiffs, successfully preventing class certification. His skill in managing complex procedural challenges and crafting effective legal strategies set a precedent for his continued success in state and federal courts.
Over the past decade, Mr. Steffens has expanded his practice to include commercial, construction, bankruptcy and surety law. He continues to represent clients in complex disputes at the administrative, trial, and appellate levels across both state and federal jurisdictions.
